Sangihe-Siau-TTalaud group of islands is an area with a stretch of active volcanoes. Among the many volcanoes there are two volcanoes that are underwater in fairly shallow waters. One of them Mahengetang Volcano located in Mahengetang Island, Sangihe, North Sulawesi. Banua Wuhu, as local people call the mountain, located just 300 meters from the southwest side of the island Mahengetang.
You don’t have to go deep to find the volcano. Volcanic crater point marked by the release of bubbles in the rocks at a depth of 8 meters. Water temperatures average 37-38 degrees Celsius there. Diving at the site, you’ll find a submerge reef which is actually the summit of the underwater volcano. No wonder that sulfur-covered rocks spread on the depth around 3-4m to around 15m where healthy and colorful coral reefs and schools of fusilier hovering.
You can dive at any time of year but the seasons dictate varying sea conditions.
The best time to go is during the dry season from March to June when visibility is at its best and water temperature is constant 28’-30’C (82’-86’F), with visibility averaging 8-30m. The winds that occur from July to October and frequent rain in November and December can reduce visibility during these months
The only cellular service provider that accepts signal roaming in Sangihe is Telkomsel (T-sel) and Indosat (i-Sat), hence you could only expect to bring either your Kartu AS, Simpati, or Kartu Halo (Telkomsel provider).

Any extras such as souvenirs, beverages, gratuities, etc can be paid in cash at Tahuna – we accept IDR Rupiah only ; however, when bringing foreign currency to Tahuna, please be advised that local banks accept only pristine condition banknotes – folded, tattered or older notes (issued before 2006) cannot be accepted any local bank in Indonesia. We have credit card facilities which guest can use between transfer.
Many international carriers provide baggage allowances for Scuba equipment, however domestic airlines are limited. At present the baggage allowance for Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Sriwijaya Air and Batik Air are 20 Kg per person; and 20 Kg per person for Wings Air.
Any excess baggage must be paid at the airport. Rates for excess baggage are subject to change without notice and vart depend on the airline, aircraft type and location.
There is a phone and internet Wi-Fi in Tahuna (Sangihe), Ulu (Siau) and Melonguane (Talaud) sufficient for checking mails is always available.
At present, the nearest recompression facility is in Manado (North Sulawesi province). There is also a local hospital in these islands. We would like to remind you that prevention is the best medicine in this case.
